31.01.08 FEDERAL: Should Hospitals be rated and compared? 31.01.08: Federal Health Ministers met today to discuss funding issues. While it might all be Labor governments around the table, divisions are already emerging with New South Wales resisting a call from the Federal Government for all public hospitals to be subject to performance scorecards. Measuring hospital performance is all about ensuring our health system is delivering for the public. NSW opposition health spokeswoman Jillian Skinner said: "The Iemma government hates this proposal because it would expose their mismanagement." 20.12.07 NSW: Royal North Shore Hospital Parliamentary Inquiry Report The parliamentary inquiry into Sydney's Royal North Shore Hospital has handed down 45 recommendations, after it was sparked by the miscarriage in September. Opposition's health spokeswoman Jillian Skinner says the recommendations made by the committee are "wishy washy" and will not lead to real solutions. Yesterday the Health Minister, Tony Abbott, wrote to his Queensland counterpart, Stephen Robertson, demanding "a full, open and independent" inquiry into allegations that an underqualified, Egyptian-born doctor performed unsupervised and flawed surgery at Mackay Base Hospital. 02.06.06 PM rejects federal takeover of hospitals The New South Wales and South Australian governments have reportedly asked the Commonwealth to consider taking full control of health to provide more efficient services to patients.
