Former patients sue surgeon, ACT govt

Two former hospital patients are suing the ACT government and a former head neurosurgeon at Canberra Hospital, alleging his negligence left them disabled.

They are claiming the ACT government was at fault because it failed to stop Dr Ray Newcombe performing surgery at the public hospital despite numerous complaints against him.

Surgeon's advice queried

A HOBART woman is taking steps to sue a former Hobart neurosurgeon and a hospital for pain she has suffered since having a neck operation nearly 10 years ago.

Ms Lang's claim falls outside the time limit in which to lodge a claim.

She has to apply for an extension of time to be allowed to bring her case.

The application is due to be heard on June 28.

The names of the doctor and hospital cannot be published for legal reasons.
